The 27th edition of the International Exhibition for Equipment, Technologies, Raw Materials and Ingredients for the Food Processing Industry – Agroprodmash 2022 – was a landmark and highly anticipated event of the year for food manufacturers and food machinery companies.
Agroprodmash is Eastern Europe's largest networking platform and showcase of the latest developments in the processing of agricultural raw materials and food production.
This year's edition took place in difficult political and economic circumstances, but even these circumstances did not prevent it from showing good results.

Show highlights
This year Agroprodmash welcomed 216 Russian manufacturers, 34 of them being newcomers.

“Russian participation increased by 59 companies compared to last year. For objective reasons, the number of foreign participants has decreased. But, nevertheless, distributors from unfriendly countries, primarily Germany and Italy, retain their positions through Russian companies. In the near future, we will be talking about localisation under Russian brands.”
The show’s 25 product sectors reflected the entire technological cycle of production. The current trends of the show were the growth in the segment of Russian manufacturers, quality import substitution, cost optimisation, search for new products and investments in Russian companies.
The biggest displays were presented by APM MeatTech and APM PoultryTech. Over 100 exhibitors presented the latest meat processing equipment, technologies and related materials from Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, the UK and the USA.
For the first time, meat processing equipment was showcased by Adam Group, Grossmaster, Eurogroup, YAFOR, Kuat, Magratep, Mit Service, Promreshenie Export, Profirestconsult, and Foodmechanic.
The latest developments in natural and artificial casings, bags, nets and other high-performance materials for the production of sausage products were presented by major Russian producers. Among the premieres were companies such as Bizon and Van Hessen.
APM Ingredients brought together about 80 companies from 21 countries. A large range of ingredients was presented by leading brands from Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, and Poland. For the first time, a food ingredient supplier from Belarus (Taroma Engineering IK) took part in the show. Stands of sustainable developing Russian companies attracted well-deserved attention, as they displayed a wide range of additives, flavour mixtures, functional preparations and other types of ingredients demanded in various branches of food and processing industries. New exhibitors included Avangard Group, Aquanova Rus, Alfa Ingredients, Ametis, Asilab, BelKras 999, Vladisart, Dao Food, Ekokom, Imperial, Leto Group, Mona Ingredients, Metr Production Company, Nebo-M, Ollimo, Polymerfarba, and Sweetfood.
The APM SweetTech and APM Bakery showrooms had about 100 companies. Equipment from Germany, Czechia, Italy, Russia and Switzerland was on show. Companies from Turkiye, including Van Meer, Memak Makine, Alke Machinery, Keskin Makina and Zeki Sahin, also stepped up their participation. The visitors saw spiral mixers and planetary mixers at stand of Chuvashtorgtechnika (Abat), convection ovens, rack ovens, pizza ovens at stand of Voskhod Firm SPE, moulding machines for various kinds of biscuits at stand of Divo-Equipment, coating lines of Dito Group, biscuit cutters, complete industrial solutions for bakeries, and industrial baking lines and automatic lines for cake production at Idea Technology's stand.
APM Packaging brought together more than 90 exhibitors. Renowned Russian manufacturers and producers of packaging equipment and materials from Austria, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Japan, Turkiye and the UK demonstrated their solutions. Among them were Bizerba, ILPRA, IMA, G. Mondini, Polo Handels, and Yamato Scale. The stands of the leading Russian manufacturers of equipment and materials for packaging were of special interest.
APM DairyTech, APM Bottling and APM DrinkMash presented around 70 exhibitors. These included well-known manufacturers from Belarus, Germany, Italy, India, the Netherlands, Spain and Turkiye. Dairy companies got acquainted with equipment for dairy equipment, complete lines for dairy plants, individual machines and components, tank and pipeline equipment, labware and solutions for quality control and food safety, hygiene and sanitation, packaging solutions, automation solutions for dairy industry, as well as flavourings, starters and complementary crops for production of dairy products.
APM Automation Solutions, APM Food Hygiene, APM Refrigeration, APM FruitMash, etc., also had interesting showcases.
Conference Programme
An extensive conference programme of Agroprodmash 2022 focused on anti-crisis solutions and state support measures for Russian food equipment manufacturers.
The 6th Forum on Food Processing Machinery 2022, organised by the Rosspetsmash Association, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and EXPOCENTRE AO, was an important event and a platform for constructive dialogue between industry business and government representatives. The main topic was the Russian food processing machinery in the new reality. What to change and how? At a plenary session, the heads of the Rosspetsmash Association, relevant departments of the Russian Ministries of Industry and Trade and Agriculture, and innovative enterprises producing equipment for the food industry discussed the preliminary results of the development of Russian food engineering enterprises in 2022, import substitution, opportunities for Russian companies to service imported food equipment, production and localisation of components, export development, and state support measures.
The 7th Russian Conference on Strategic Challenges of Agribusiness: Anti-crisis Solutions, Alternative Logistics, Raw Materials and Ingredients was one of the key events of the conference programme. It was organised by Imperia Forum and EXPOCENTRE and brought together more than 300 participants: manufacturers of equipment for agro-industrial and food processing enterprises, representatives of government, business, professional associations, logistics and consulting companies.
The forum opened with the Analytical Session on Trends and Prospects of the Dairy, Meat, Bakery and Fish Industries in the Context of Sanctions Pressure. Presentations were made by Denis Raksha, Managing Partner of Neocon Expert Consulting, Ekaterina Zakharova, Lead Analyst at Dairy News, Dmitry Semenov, Vice-President of the Russian Bakers Union, Elena Shishova, representative of Romir Research Holding, and Maxim Kuznetsov, Analyst at Skylex Group.
The experts touched on a wide range of issues in the context of sanctions pressure on the Russian economy, changed logistics and other new threats that have emerged in 2022. In their view, the new challenges affect all systemic processes of the manufacturing agro-industrial business: modernisation and development, supply of equipment, components, raw materials, sales, foreign markets, and logistics. The forum was dedicated to finding solutions in these areas.
The topic of the subsequent session was reconfiguring the ingredient matrix of the food and food processing industry in the new environment.
In separate sessions, experts from the agribusiness sector looked at how to maintain efficiency in food production during global crises, modernise food processing plants, and address the issue of logistics.
The 17th Russian Forum on Innovative Technologies and Equipment in the Dairy Industry and 7th Russian Forum on Bakery and Confectionery Industry “Bread Business” were organised by EXPOCENTRE and KVK Imperia. The forum participants talked about the changes on the dairy and bakery market, their trends and development prospects.
A number of important events were held by EXPOCENTRE AO in partnership with Gorbatov Federal Research Center for Food Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The Food Marketing School attracted a lot of interest from the industry’s experts. The main topic was Positioning in 8 Steps. A Practical Guide on How to Create a Positioning Statement and Engage a Consumer in its Creation. The discussion was attended by strategists, marketing directors, and product managers from the food industry.
The 12th International Meat Congress was devoted to the topic of how to how to increase shelf life of food products. The specialists of Gorbatov Federal Research Center for Food Systems and managers and experts of the meat industry presented the review of State Standards on shelf life of food products, told about struggle against biofilms in food enterprises as one of the ways to increase shelf life of products, accelerated methods of establishing shelf life of meat and canned meat, expressed their view on the role of packaging in extending shelf life of meat products, and influence of bacteria in meat spoilage.
The Sphere Publishing House in partnership with the CROC IT company organised the 2nd Congress on the Agriculture Industry Digitalization. Sergey Selivanov, EXPOCENTRE First Deputy Director General, welcomed the congress participants on behalf of EXPOCENTRE. During the sessions, experts of IT companies and representatives of the largest enterprises of the industry discussed the main trends of digitalisation of the agricultural sector in the new realities, and also shared their experience of implementing advanced digital technologies, presented innovative solutions, successful cases and provided practical information on many industry-specific issues.
EXPOCENTRE together with Rossoyuzkholodprom – the Russian Union of Refrigeration and in partnership with the Refrigeration Industry web portal organised the 4th Conference on Refrigeration Industry: Effective Solutions for the Food and Food Processing Industry. The event identified the best solutions for the refrigeration industry. The participants talked about import substitution of refrigeration and heat exchange equipment, highlighted successful products and technologies of refrigeration equipment and components manufacturers, and considered the selection and operation of refrigeration equipment at industrial refrigeration facilities: food production, warehouses, and stores with centralised refrigeration systems.
The Conference on Robots in the Food Industry, organised by EXPOCENTRE and the Russian Association of Robotics (RAR) in partnership with the Meridian system integrator, generated a lot of interest. The participants of the sessions talked about robotisation trends in the food industry and the problems of implementing robots in the food industry, and shared their experience of implementing robotic systems in food enterprises in the current environment of constraints.
During the Panel Discussion on Poultry and Egg Processing. Success via Effective Solutions: Practical Approach, Scientific Innovations, Legal Regulations, organised by EXPOCENTRE in partnership with the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Poultry Processing Industry, the participants exchanged views on poultry processing, its competitiveness, safety and innovative development of the industry. The event was attended by renowned speakers from the research and business communities, and specialists from poultry farms and holdings.
The National Union of Meat Processors held the Russian Meeting of Owners and Top Executives of Meat Enterprises: THE SANCTION CRISIS… The Time of STRONG STRATEGIES HAS COME! with the participation of experts, plant managers, top managers and owners of meat processing companies from various Russian regions. The invited speakers revealed the threats and prospects of the sanctions crisis, and shared their experience and ideas for building competitive advantages in a difficult forecasting environment.
Another landmark industry event was the 2nd Convention of Turkey Producers, organised by the National Association of Turkey Producers. Delegates discussed the state of the market in Russia and globally and looked at trends in the retail market and turkey's place in it.
Georg Polymer organised the Panel on Industrial Tray Packaging. Prospects, Risks, Benefits, Scheming. During the discussions, representatives of retailers, meat processing companies, suppliers of equipment, trays, films and wipes discussed the real picture that had developed in this segment in the new conditions and possible forecasts: the future of technological packaging, redistribution between packaging types and in whose favour, situation with supply and maintenance of equipment, trends in the cost of consumables, and reduction of losses in the packaging process.
The Workshop of Sergey Eliseev on Urgent Optimisation of Agribusiness in a Structural Crisis attracted considerable attention.
Traditionally, the highlight of Agroprodmash was the Show of the Best Professional Meat Boners. It was organised by EXPOCENTRE and its scientific partner Gorbatov Federal Research Centre for Food Systems.

The participants represented 11 meat processors: Yelizovsky Meat Processing Plant (Kamchatka), Meat Processing Plant REMIT (Moscow Oblast), Cherkizovo Group (Moscow), Kungursky Meat Processing Plant (Perm Krai), Altayskie Sausages (Altai Krai), Pavlovskaya Sloboda Meat Processing Plant (Moscow Oblast), Tambovsky Bacon (Tambov), Meat Processing Plant Veles (Kurgan), MPZ Bogorodsky (Moscow Oblast), Vostochny (Udmurt Republic) and Dmitrogorsky Processing Plant (Tver Oblast). Meat boners form Kamchatka and Altai Krai took part in the show for the first time.
Agroprodmash 2022 featured a number of master classes.
For the first time, the Russian Research Institute of Canning Technology held a master class in vegetable fermentation for small farms, agrifirms, medium and large processors, warehouses and the widest possible audience.
A series of master classes were organised by the Bread Baking Academy of the Russian State Scientific Research Institute of Baking Industry: innovative ingredients in the baking industry – an effective way to reduce product costs; rye sourdough for the production of rye and rye-wheat breads; new developments of the Russian State Scientific Research Institute of Baking Industry and EYWA-PRO: starters and sprouted rye grains; a modern approach to flavor making process for bakery and pastry products; using ferments and acidifying components to manage flavour, quality and duration of processes; wheat sourdough starter, types and functionality in wheat breads; and labelling of bakery products. Correct labelling.
Tauras-Phoenix, a leader in the production of filling and packaging equipment for the food industry, organised an educational and introductory event for university students. The future professionals were introduced to equipment for filling and packaging liquid, paste-like and granular products.
The Counselling Centre for Refrigeration Technology and the Counselling Centre of the Food Ingredients Producers Union were open on all exhibition days.
The Agroprodmash Employment Centre recorded high activity among employers and job seekers. According to its results, technologists, engineers and sales specialists are in great demand among employers. Traditionally, there is also a great demand for blue-collar workers such as loaders, order pickers, labourers, specialised machinery drivers, as well as skilled workers.
